Our verdict

The X4 is the first Navimow built for ground that fights back. Four driven wheels on twin suspensions, steering by eccentric front wheels that Segway says do not tear the turf, an 84% slope rating and a 7 cm vertical step put it ahead of every Mammotion here on paper, and the 430 mm deck with two 180 W motors and twelve blades cuts as wide as anything in the catalogue. Positioning is network RTK fused with a 360° camera and visual odometry. There is no LiDAR, but the same camera drives obstacle detection with a ToF sensor and 200+ object types. The X420 is the 2,000 m² version: a 10 Ah battery, 675 m² and 90 minutes a charge, 75 minutes to recharge, one year of cellular data included. It weighs 28.8 kg, measures 85 cm long, runs at 68 dB and lists no passage width, which is the honest way of saying this is a machine for open ground rather than a cottage garden.

Pros

  • 84% slope rating on four-wheel drive with dual suspension, and a 7 cm vertical step
  • 430 mm twin-disc deck, two 180 W motors, 20 to 95 mm cutting height
  • Network RTK with a 360° camera, no antenna to install; 120 zones
  • Rain sensor plus weather forecast, IP66, three-year warranty
  • Cut-to-edge mowing, GPS tracking, PIN code and a 3.5-inch screen

Cons

  • 28.8 kg and 85 cm long, with no passage width stated
  • 68 dB, the loudest Navimow
  • No LiDAR: positioning needs satellites, with the camera as backup
  • Cellular data is free for one year, then €29.90 a year

Best for

  • Large, sloped or rough lawns around 2,000 m²
  • Thick grass and long cutting heights that a 220 mm deck cannot manage

Not recommended for

  • Small gardens with narrow passages
  • Heavily wooded plots, where satellite positioning has no LiDAR to fall back on
