Our verdict

Of the three LUBA 3 variants this is the one where the price and the hardware line up best. For €400 over the 1500 you get the full Tri-Fusion positioning, meaning network RTK over the bundled 4G added to the LiDAR and the cameras, the 165 W cutting motors built for thick grass, a 12 Ah battery good for 175 minutes and 1,400 m² a charge, and 30 zones. What the 5000 adds for a further €500 is a bigger battery and more zones, nothing else. The chassis is the familiar LUBA 3: four driven wheels, 80% slopes, a 400 mm twin-disc deck, the LiDAR under an alloy guard, rain detection, 19 kg, three years of warranty. The familiar limits stay too: no edge-cutting disc, a 70 cm minimum passage, and 70 dB at work.

Pros

  • LiDAR, network RTK and two cameras together; no antenna to install
  • 165 W cutting motors on a 400 mm twin-disc deck
  • 1,400 m² and 175 minutes a charge, 120 minutes to recharge
  • All-wheel drive rated for 80% slopes
  • 30 zones, 70 cm passages, three-year warranty

Cons

  • No edge cutting, so a border strip still needs trimming
  • 70 cm minimum passage and a 69 cm long chassis
  • 70 dB stated, against under 65 dB for the LUBA mini 2
  • Network RTK depends on Mammotion's iNavi service and the 4G coverage it runs over

Best for

  • Sloped plots between 1,500 and 3,000 m²
  • Thick, fast-growing grass and gardens with tree cover

Not recommended for

  • Narrow gardens with passages under 70 cm
  • Anyone who needs the lawn edge cut by the robot
