Our verdict
The L40 Ultra Gen 2 is what the first L40 Ultra should have been: 25,000 Pa instead of 11,000, the TriCut hair-cutting brush and detergent dispenser in the box, and a dock that empties into a 3.2 l bag for 100 days, washes the mops on a 20-nozzle DryBoard, dries them with hot air and refills the water. The DuoScrub mops swing out 4 cm to the edges and lift 10.5 mm for carpet, where the app offers a suction boost, a carpet-first order and an intensive mode. It maps four floors by LiDAR, dodges obstacles with 3D structured light that recognises no objects, and crosses 2 cm thresholds. The 5,200 mAh battery is rated for 231 quiet minutes, with Matter promised by update and a three-year warranty. Dreame prints no dimensions or noise figure for the 4.01 kg robot, which has no camera. For a tidy home with hard floors and low rugs it is the L40 to buy.

Suction and brushes
The manufacturer rates the suction at 25,000 Pa. That is about the middle of the field. The main brush is the tangle-resistant type, with one side brush. On carpet the suction rises automatically.
Mopping
Mop system: twin spinning pads. It lifts the mop 10 mm over carpet. The mop swings out to reach along walls.
Navigation and obstacles
It navigates by LiDAR and avoids obstacles with structured light. It stores 4 floor plans. It climbs thresholds up to 20 mm. That is less than most of the 71 robot vacuums with a published figure. No-go zones can be drawn in the app.
The dock
The dock empties the bin, washes and dries the mop and refills the water tank. The dust bag lasts about 100 days.
