Our verdict

The i220 stretches the i2 LiDAR to 2,000 m² with a 10 Ah battery: 560 m² and 210 minutes a charge, 120 minutes to recharge, and by Segway's own arithmetic eighteen and a half hours for the full lawn, because the 220 mm single disc still covers only 160 m² an hour. The platform is the one that makes the i2 LiDAR worth having on a plot a satellite mower cannot see: LiDAR and camera positioning with no antenna, wire or view of the sky, automatic mapping, ride-on edge cutting, 200+ recognised obstacles at 1 cm, twenty zones, a 3 cm step, GPS tracking, a PIN and a colour screen, 59 dB, IP66 and a three-year warranty. The price asks a question, though: €1,599 is exactly what Segway charges for the i210 LiDAR Pro, which adds network RTK, three-wheel drive and a 55% slope rating for 1,000 m². Take the i220 for the area and the trees; take the Pro for the slope.

Pros

  • 560 m² and 210 minutes a charge from a 10 Ah battery
  • LiDAR and camera positioning: no antenna, wire or satellite view, and automatic mapping
  • Ride-on edge cutting, 20 zones, 200+ obstacles recognised at 1 cm
  • 59 dB and IP66 in a 15.1 kg machine
  • GPS tracking, lift and boundary alarms, PIN code, three-year warranty

Cons

  • 160 m² an hour: eighteen and a half hours for 2,000 m² by Segway's own count
  • Rear-wheel drive and 45% slopes, so not for banks and terraces
  • The same €1,599 buys the i210 LiDAR Pro with network RTK and 55% slopes for 1,000 m²
  • Weather forecast only, no rain sensor; cellular data €29.90 a year after the first

Best for

  • Flat or gently sloped lawns of 1,500 to 2,000 m² under trees or between buildings
  • Owners happy to let the mower run most of the day

Not recommended for

  • Steep gardens, where the i2 LiDAR Pro or a LUBA is the better buy
  • Anyone who wants the lawn finished quickly
