Our verdict

The LUBA mini 2 AWD 1500 is the LUBA mini 2 with the 1000's biggest limitation removed. The smaller model positions by network RTK and three cameras, so it still wants open sky; the 1500 carries a 360° LiDAR with a 60 m range and two cameras and uses no satellites at all, which is why Mammotion rates it for work under trees, along narrow paths and at night. Everything that made the mini 2 worth buying is kept: independent motors on all four wheels, an 80% slope rating, a 120 mm edge disc that cuts to about 5 cm from a wall, rain detection, 4G included for three years and a three-year warranty. The LiDAR costs 2.2 kg and €400 over the 1000, the deck is the same 200 mm, so 1,500 m² means several sessions, and there is no satellite fix to fall back on if the LiDAR's 60 m view is blocked. Mammotion claims no tracking or PIN lock for it either.

Pros

  • 360° LiDAR with a 60 m range and two cameras: no antenna, no wire, no satellite view needed
  • All-wheel drive rated for 80% slopes, in a 17.2 kg machine
  • Edge disc cuts to about 5 cm from a wall; 20 zones and 68 cm passages
  • 150 minutes and 500 m² per charge, rain detection, three-year warranty
  • 4G module with three years of data included

Cons

  • 200 mm main deck, so 1,500 m² takes several sessions
  • 2.2 kg heavier and €400 dearer than the 1000 for the LiDAR
  • No satellite positioning to fall back on when the LiDAR's view is blocked
  • No tracking, PIN lock or theft protection claimed, and noise is stated only as under 65 dB

Best for

  • Sloped gardens up to 1,500 m² with trees, hedges and narrow passages
  • Plots where satellite mowers lose their fix: courtyards, tree cover, tall buildings

Not recommended for

  • Large open lawns, where a wider deck saves hours
  • Buyers who want built-in theft protection
